embedding video, slideshare, etc in your webpage: part 3- dreamweaver

July 8, 2010

So I’ll looked at wordpress and blogger, but what about you webpages? embedding video and presentations there can be useful too.

I use dreamweaver, but if you don’t hopefully the principle will seem transferrable.

As with the blogs, it’s important to find the embedding code for the video or presentation you want – see Part 1 for a reminder.

Once you’ve copied the code, open up the webpage where you want to embed the video in dreamweaver.

1. open the page in dreamweaver, and click in the page where you want to embed the video. Now change the view from “design” to “split”

2.  you should seen the in the code version of your page, the cursor flashing. Paste the code in this place. Save the page, make it “live”, and view.

It should hopefully look something like….

let me know how you get on, or if you feed that any of these instructions could be improved.

embedding video, slideshare, etc in your blog: part 2- blogger blogs

So the same principles apply in blogger as in wordpress – you need to have found the video you want to embed, copied the code, and then in Blogger….

1. start a new post, and when you’re ready to embed the item, click on the html view:

2. paste the code into the screen, and then scroll to the end of it, and continue to blog as normal. If you prefer to return to the “visual” version of your blog that’s fine.

When you’re done, save the blog entry, and preview before you publish (just to be on the safe side!)

3. your blog should look something like…..

easy, isn’t it?

Next up, Dreamweaver…

embedding video, slideshare, etc in your blog: part 1- wordpress blogs

July 8, 2010

there are so many useful videos on YouTube, and presentations on slideshare that makes sense to link to them from your blog or webpage, but wouldn’t it look so much better if they were embedded into your blog or webpage – people can see the content without having to leave your site?

It’s so easy to do. Here are some step-by-step instructions for blogs in Blogger.com and WordPress, and also to embed the item in a webpage using Dreamweaver as the editor.

First things first – what do you want to embed? And what information from that thing do you need?

YouTube: find your video, and look for the “embed” option, click this and copy the code that you see:

The same applies to slideshare:

Second things next…  where are you going to embed these things?

Part 1: WordPress blogs

1. first find the option to display your blog post in HTML rather than “visual – click this option.

2. Then scroll down your blog entry till you find the spot at which you want to embed the video/presentation. (If you’re not used to HTML, there will seem like lots of “noise” in the page, but you’ll soon start to be able to see where your text is, in relation to all the HTML tags (ie everything you see in < > brackets)

3. Paste the code you’ve copied from youtube or slideshare, and then click the “save” option and then “preview” to see how your post looks:

4. hopefully your page looks something like this:

- exactly the same process applies for inserting slideshare (or any other) code.

Next I’ll look at blogger, and in part 3, dreamweaver.
